Task 2

Welcome to Week 2 builders. For the second instalment of your journey, we ask you to create a cubicle. Each builder needs a space to map out their plans, why not show us yours? Listed below are some of the factors we want you to keep in mind while building:

- Post-editing, we will be adding walls around your room to enclose it.

The wall colour is going to be any HEX colour of your choosing (any colour).

- You may use small wall decorations - they will be placed on your cubicle walls (as seen above).

- The room does not need to be functional - you can use any illusion you see fit to get your idea across.

- Please keep your cubicle 1 tiered (no ladders/staircases/etc).

Room Size:  4x4

We are still in shock that so many of you decided to do blue cubical walls! Overall these were some fantastic builds this week. A lot of creativity and imagination went into creating a unique space for yourself. We stress the importance of showing us your individual style; anyone can create a room build, it's how you take the information we give you and imaginatively use that to inspire you, its what makes a great room design.  Thanks for another great week, we look forward to hearing feedback from all of you.  I would also like to comment on the "warehouse" aspect we originally intended on having this season. Please read below for that.

Thanks.

The contrasting colours and mix of items to create these organized, but still messy details are quite gorgeous. The brown structured shelf is nicely done and the array of items stacked inside added a nice touch. My favourite element of this design would be the yellow tones you added through the use of the books and flowers. It moves your eye around the design; giving you the ability to see each element. Ultimately this is very impressive; the blue walls heightens your build. Nicely done, you should be especially proud of this one.

Compared to every other room, yours is the one that shows the most personality. The room has great stacking details and the colour choice contrasts perfectly with the warm tones of the furni. The detailing has a whimsical feel to it which makes this room more personal. My only critique for future rooms would be to be careful with editing.

True-Courage

Modern and stylish, this room has much to be desired. The use of all the beige and cream gives it an edgy look that not many builds had this week. I see a lot of your building style within this. I find this to be one of the more practical layouts this week; the way the desk is detached from the build but still holds its own is what makes this that much more powerful. The intricate items displayed sporadically throughout the room tie it all together. Overall every aspect was thought out and reflects another component of the build. Good job!

The colour palette is my favourite part of this room. The combination of dark brown, cream, vanilla yellow and blue is really eye catching. I enjoy the use of ice cafe seats for constructive details and the painting fits with the room. Not a huge fan of that particular table but I understand the decision of matching it with the rest of the blue details. Overall this room is good but not one of the most eye catching. I don’t find any errors with it. Great job Sarah.

Though you've exemplified what it is we wanted this week; it falls short in terms of creativity. It's uniformed and lacks something. Though I do have to say I love the cupboards above the desk; and how the desk wraps around the perimeter of the room. All of the details, though they are displayed appropriately, they could have been toned down to display some more of the architectural aspects within. A solid build, can't wait to see what you come up with next. Thanks.

You and panday have a similar issue. You’re both geniuses with detailing but your rooms this week lack personality. The furni detail is impeccable. I love the mess on the floor and the record player positioned there. I feel like this room needed a thematic flare to it. You could have turned it into a cyberpunk office with neons and gritty wires or add a flare of colour and go in any direction you wanted as long as it wasn't presented in such a dull personality. Next time take risks, go out of your comfort zone and just have fun with these rooms.

In terms of owning your space, I feel you missed the mark. The palette is very bright and fun and though the entirety of the build doesn't reflect that aspect; I really wish it did. Your personality is so easy going and fun, I wish you added more of that. The details though apparent; they may not be enough to keep you this week in my opinion. There is room for improvement in this build for sure; don't be deterred, it's not a bad build by any means. Had you incorporated some oranges or striking white shelves and cubbies; this would have come across more powerful. Thanks.

I applaud you for the use of a non square space and the detailed stacking with the small furni. Saying that, there is a lot wrong going on with this room. You needed cohesiveness and this is the complete opposite of it. The colour combinations don’t work together at all. You have dark pink, light brown, white, gray, blue walls. It is just too much. To top it all off you added that green and red pillow on the chair. The time and details you put into this is not enough to save the overall choices made for this room.

I'm buzzin' - so happy you changed your room. The aesthetic of this build is very suave and sophisticated. You've managed to make a small space look very large. The way the room is shaped with the desk gives the illusion that there is a lot of space in the middle. The cabinet with the pictures was one of my favourite aspects. Overall you've created a very clean and palpable design. Well done.

I’m glad you decided to change your previous room cuz honey that wasn't one of your best works. The shelving construct here is phenomenal. It is sleek and modern with a nice colour combination. I do enjoy the studio photos on the desk and the actual computer desk being tucked in. For this room to really pop I believe it needed something more.. Like another detail going through the front of the room. Overall great work Toni.

The first thing I have to point out is the concerning room layout. Though I totally understand the direction you were heading in. It's not conducive. There is simply no room to be able to move around within the space. The palette is elegant and calming, I fathom the wall art you created. The desk is unique and the use of the stool underneath it was clever. All that being said; I wish you pushed your creativity a tad bit further. I want to see you throw everything you have at your next build if you survive this week. I know you can do it.

My overall verdict for this room is really underwhelming. Comparing this with the other  rooms, it stands out on having not enough of anything. I feel like you could have done way more with this. I understand the choice to cut the room in a more unique shape but this was not the right task for it. You had a small space and you were expected to fill it up. I do enjoy the colours and the tone of the room.

Moonwalk

This is so graphical and unique. It looks like it's from a comic book. I'm thoroughly impressed with this. I find the colours are refreshing, the metallic posts and surfaces are incredible. I love how you created a ceiling fan, very unique and inspiring touch of creativity. I don't love the flooring, I feel the smaller grey rugs aren't needed for this space. You made the room so clean and they contrast that. However that miniscule critique is hardly relevant; this is powerful. Thanks.

Amazing construction as always with the grays and seafoam green. I love how metallic and mechanical it looks, and using decoration and details sparingly fits with the idea you tried to convey here. It looks practical, sleek and clean. This would have definitely won if it wasn't for the floor. What the frick happent there? It's just layers upon layers upon layers of carpets. I also find the stone details under the desk to be inappropriate and not needed. Ignoring the floor, great room Ari.

Panday

I look at this and think "yea it's a cubicle" - I want you to be able to leave an impression; honestly out of all the designs this week, this was one I kept forgetting. Upon closer inspection there are certainly some redeeming qualities, such as the posts on the desk and the different cabinets underneath it. You've put some thought into this build and I acknowledge that. I would love to see you try new stacking techniques and perhaps come up with some stuff we haven't seen before. Overall an admirable effort, just push the limit a bit more. Thanks.

Your attention to detail is genius! Using the alarm thing as a computer case is one of my favourite things in this room. I also love the wired furni used as shelves. Very inventive. There is something that’s lacking in this room though. The whole room feels clinical and cold. It needs personality and character. In future rooms I would like you to try to put a part of your very own character into the construction of the room. Make it personal and reflective of your own mind.

Doglover53

The simplistic and modern feel of this build is gorgeous. I enjoy how sleek everything is and the opacity of some of the features giving you full vision of the room. The palette is tame and reserved; much like your personality and I find that empowering. The rounded desk and shelving you've created are some of my favourite aspects of this. Overall you've managed to portray almost every aspect I was looking for in my personal criteria this week. Solid week for you. Thanks.

First impression on the room immediately tells you that you worked your butt off to find and combine everything here. Thematically this room outshines every other room. It is clean, it is conceptual, and it is personal.  Limiting yourself to one shade and adding stuff  throughout multiple furni lines is the highlight of this room. Structurally the room lacks of nothing. Strong week for you.

Warehouse Notice:

We realize creating the warehouse each week is a colossal waste of time as you all have resources of finding what you need. That being said we've allotted a certain amount of funds each week to help you  builders. If you find you need a certain item; if it's in our capability to get that item for you we will, don't hesitate to ask.
