Task 3

come on baby LIGHT my fire

Welcome to week builders. For your third task of the season, we ask you to create a room using light as a main focus. To set the scene, your build will take place during the night. Using your creativity and skill; design a room that features something that illuminates. Click the button below to see a guide on how you can achieve this. Good luck.

Room Size:  UNLIMITED

Overall a very powerful week, a lot of you definitely impressed us and inspired us. Unique builds never go unnoticed. We hope you all learn from our critiques and can hopefully take some of our criticism and advice and use it to move forward in this competition. Happy reading!

Moonwalk

The theme is very retro. I love the 50's vibe this room is giving. I find the neon sign you created brings the room together and serves as a very important factor. Having the diner light up from the inside really made it pop in my opinion. It exaggerates the darkness and draws your eye to the structure you built. The palette is appropriate and conforms to the theme you were going for. Overall a very impressive build. You've thought out each element and I can see your thought process being portrayed through every aspect. Thanks.

Interesting take on the task. The colour pallette of the room is striking. This was a perfect excuse to use neons as your light source. The diner neon sign on the right is the highlight of this room. I love how you even thought of the takeout detail on the side, rationalizing it with the street effect. My concern is that you picked way too many things to light up. I think you could have edited it out more and removed the guitar, the skylight and the pink strips. They are overwhelming.

Babycakes

This looks unfinished, the large stone structure; though intriguing and unique, it doesn't come across as necessary. My eyes are drawn to it rather than the light features you've sporadically spread around your build. That being said, I love the steps going up to the door and the way you tied the wood elements into the marketplace. The lights shining on the produce was a nice touch, very warming. I wish there were more light elements in this build overall. The windows weren't enough for me and I'm left wanting to see more. Thanks.

There are things i love in this room and things that I feel like they weren't executed well. Let's start with things I like. The markets stalls are really cute, the details on the storage part are too. I always enjoy aesthetically pleasing trash. The lights have this warm yellowish tone to them that I love. Now let's get to the parts I don’t like. My first issue is the texture of the building. I get that you tried to do a more organic wall with various textures but it falls flat. It looks messy and glitchy and not what you tried to portray. My other issue with it is the positioning of the market stalls. If they were positioned in a way that makes more sense, the room would have a more organic flow to it. Good idea just needs better execution.

When it comes to using the light effect to your advantage, this room is lacking of it. But the overall theme and tone of the room overpowers that. This room is simply beautiful. I really enjoy the organic shape you have the room in, making this a simple square would have been boring. All the colourful details are dimmed down so they don’t look odd and out of place. Even though the lights are lacking in drama, they still give the room a beautiful ambience. I’m glad you started to show your strengths, took you a bit longer than most but it was worth the wait.

This is your strongest build to-date. Very organic and natural. I find this is a great use of the light element we wanted in this weeks task. The fire being the hub and ultimately the main source of light in this build. It creates a lot of warmth and sensual atmosphere to the room. I don't particularly love the arrangement of trees but I can appreciate them for what they are. The room is organic and full of life. Good job.

Tarkovsky

Simply stunning. This is the best use of lighting i've seen this week. The way you darkened the room further by adding the rain really draws out the light and makes this build that much more impressive. The light features are so in-tune with the aesthetic of the room it's hard to think of something negative to say. The build is pretty straightforward in terms of the items you used. By adding them all together; and the way you stacked them really focuses on attention to detail and its impressive. Overall the theme, setting and aesthetic of the build is tuned down to the finest detail and it was nice to see. Good job.

This is one of the most impressive rooms you’ve submitted in this competition so far. I love everything about it. The Japanese alleyway clear inspiration, the mood you portrayed with the rain and how you took advantage of this tasks medium  to empower that, the details all over the building and the actual use of lights. The lights are striking and they highlight the most important parts of the room. I would also like to note how you specifically asked me to do harsh light and shadows  especially on the lower entrance. One thing i would have liked to see done differently is those stairs. They are too odd compared to the rest of the room. Overall great work!

Proportionately this doesn't work. The dock you created is far too large for the space and it is definitely not needed. I respect the light sources you used. Pretty creative and genius. The way the light reflects off of the boat and leaves the shadow in the water, my favourite touch definitely. The twist and organic nature of the room was very refreshing. That all being said; I don't particularly enjoy the tree line. The division of the 2 different trees you used to make the dense forest didn't portray a natural setting. Overall, not your best but certainly not the worst this week. Thanks.

I’m just gonna start with saying that the lighthouse is unoriginal. Also the logic of the room is messy. Why is there a lighthouse and a huge dock  on a weird pond/lake in the middle of the forest? Speaking of the dock, I don't understand the position and the placement of it, like what purpose does it have? The light was not utilized that well. I do enjoy the organic shape of the room and the composition of the trees in the background. Not one of your best works but it has potential. Maybe.

For such a minuscule detail, I can't stop looking at the crate stacked under the window. Brilliant, the whole design is unique. The bioluminescent aspect is rather stunning. I'm able to flow my imagination through the design and pick up on every detail you've added in this build. The rustic and organic nature of this is what makes this a powerhouse this week. You used light to your advantage and found a way to incorporate that in a very cunning manor. Well done.

Original take on the task. You thought outside of the box and the quality of this room shows that. That tiny vine covered cabin is the cutest thing in the world, the luminescent lights going across the whole room are striking and the overall mood of the room is simply magical. You achieved this by picking bright details to light up while the rest of the room has a uniform tone to it. I do wish you edited it out a bit though, the flowers on the roof of the cottage are dull and lifeless compared to the rest, lighting up blue things and avoiding the pinks might have worked too in an editorial level. I’m just nitpicking here. Great show of variety from a hyper masculine room last week to this fantasy fairy cottage.

True-Courage

This is easily one of the strongest constructive builds we received this week. Very thought out in terms of architecture and theme. The industrial and grungy tone vamps the neon sign you concocted and it really stands out. I love the use of lighting in this build; interior to exterior lighting seemed like the smartest choice this week and I think you portrayed what we asked of you beautifully. The window is aesthetically pleasing to look at and the innovativeness that went into designing those bars is very admirable. Overall a very solid build. You should be proud of this one!

True-courage is back! This building is so petite and cute. The use of dark textures to create the construction was a really nice touch because when you contrast it with the lights, the dark looks richer than most rooms. I like how you decided to show two functions of this room, the warm welcoming neon entrance on one side, the cold clinical light showing through the windows on the other. The detailing is impeccable, I especially like the way you used the street lamps as exposed tubes going through the walls.

Panday

Last week I told you, you were very forgettable in my mind and didn't leave a lasting impression. This week I'm afraid it's much the same. I can appreciate the build as a whole, for what it's worth it makes me smile. The coziness it evokes and the functionality it has is very fitting. In terms of what we were asking for this task, it doesn't portray a light element as effectively as other builds and it certainly isn't the greatest in terms of structure. It falls a bit flat. Thanks.

This room is ok for a normal habbo room but comparing this to every other room in this competition, it is rather underwhelming. The layout is not basic and there are no inventive / interesting structures. The composition is unappealing and the room lacks details. The lighting aspect wasn't utilized in an interesting way. It is an overall weak room that doesn’t hold up to the others.
