ISLAND

ISLAND

Week 2

Welcome Builders

Welcome to Week 2 of Builders Corp. 4.

For your second task in this competition. We ask you to create a floating island. Your island must give the illusion that it is floating mid-air. (NOT in water). The subject matter and theme is entirely up to you.

Good luck builders!

Congratulations Builders! You have successfully completed your second task. This week we saw a lot of ingenuity. Your individual story-telling is exceptional. Those that ranked lower this week, remember to keep pushing your limits. We stress the importance of following your imagination and how that translates into a new fangled build.   Please see  the progress page for your individual ranking. Thanks!

This was crafted exceptionally well. The industrial aspects are combined quite beautifully. You can see in the close-ups where you focused some of your attention. The stacking and layering of items is impeccable. Your use of light gives the illusion that there is a lot happening inside the floating vessel that we are oblivious to. Your storytelling is very prevalent and you were able to provide us with something unique. Overall a very wieldy construct that embodies an idea to its full potential. Fantastic job this week.

I feel like you were just waiting to get a task like this. I can clearly see your individual brand of style weaved throughout this room. A major fan of the divide between the sci-fi industrial heavy theme at the bottom contrasted with the almost fake looking organic environment on top. I believe the irregular shape of the room enhances the overall appeal. Consider me thoroughly inspired.

Your attention to detail in regards to the combination and stacking of rocks is exquisite. They are textured nicely and spread out so it looks organic. Your colour palette and placement of foliage is eye-catching. I enjoy the balance of beauty and destruction. I wish you expanded on your concept a little more. Showing us a deeper connection the gore possesses and how it tells the story on your little island. Overall this is a well balanced design that is certainly worthy of praise.

What a polemicizing room. It got us judges debating over it. I personally am not big on it. I love some of the details you displayed here like the drops of yellows and oranges on that side and the way the details sorta frame the work but I also find the clash of all these colors a bit… violent to the eyes. I also wish it gave us more of a floaty island feel whereas this is more of a floating slab of land. Anyway enough about that. This is a perfectly good room but in the midst of this monster cast, it fails to stand out.

Moody, intimidating and terrifying. Powerful rendition of this weeks task. The decision to recolour your build was brilliant. It worked well with the hues you were already building with. Creating a very dreary and dusty looking island. The fire casting a glow, illuminating some of the rocks is stunning. I think you whole heartedly grasped this task the way it was intended to inspire you. I think the path you created could incorporate a little more definition. Highlight how you're meant to navigate the space, instead of cluttering the entire space. Overall, very strong build. Well done!

A superb room with one of the more unique themes of the week. Everything fits well within the theme and the limited palette plays a strong hand on that. I commend you for using moodlight in a correct manner, enhancing the room without muddying it up. This is just a hint of your personal style and I can’t wait to see more.

A charming recreation of such a recognizable floating island. You took so many whimsical aspects into considering when creating your portrayal of this weeks task. The roots connecting the smaller portions of the island are genius. The dark and dreary rocks and gross being illuminated by the glow of the crystals, stunning. The shape of this build is one of my favourites this week. Your attention to detail is outstanding. Keep up the good work. Well done.

This room is pure magic. You managed quite the accomplishment here with this stunning visual of a floating island. Every detail is thoughtfully woven into the room giving us one of the more unique islands this week. You have a great eye on palette and tone, nothing here stands out as a sore thumb, everything matches and I’m thoroughly enchanted.

You set the ground work by incorporating so many distinguishable aspects associated with floating islands. I can admire and appreciate your thought process. The waterfall cascading down the side of the island, the clouds touching the cliffs, good stuff. That being said, I'm having a hard time forcing the narrative. The design seems too safe. You could've taken a few more liberties in some of your design choices. Create more layers, more depth, more details. We want to see how far you're able to stretch your imagination to fit our tasks. I want to see your story-telling. Thanks.

Not one of your best but I do find some redeeming qualities in this. It is constructed and presented well compositionally and colour-wise. I do enjoy the limitation on the palette and the overall quirky theme. There is one blatant mistake that kind of derails the room a bit. I’m talking about the waterfall on top left. It’s just an odd choice for a furni with a weird bird house attached to it. Acceptable work just be mindful of some details. Imagine if the room looks better without them and edit them out appropriately.

I wish you had refined your inspiration this week. The crystals peeking out of the rocks are gorgeous. I wish you elaborated on that idea. Perhaps showing us the internal workings of your construction. The foliage you've incorporated is expected. Yes you did follow the task. I want you to express your creativity through your design to its full potential. Let's see what makes you tick. Go to the extremes, tell us a story, show us some unique design choices. That's why we picked you to participate! We know you can do it. Good luck.

A perfectly readable floating island. I do like some of the details shown, like the hint of the inner cave and the hanging vines. I also enjoy the graphic you did on the underside of the terrarium. That being said I believe this room lacks vision. Apart from the details I mentioned earlier, everything else just seems pointless. The greenery on top is nothing special. I do wish you either had a better utilized idea and theme for the island or if you went for the greenery route, at least make it interesting by limiting your palette and making the colors and tone match. Keep in mind we don’t want full rooms, we want ideas, visions, scenes, perfectly realized.

This is gorgeous. The colours are so vibrant and aesthetically pleasing. You can picture this illuminating vessel patrolling the sky. The detailing in the wires, lights and rocks is really good work. Had you scaled this build down and focused more on the top of the design, this could've placed higher in the ranking for this week. The symmetry, though it's what you intended, it could've been avoided entirely for a more natural looking approach. Focus on those small details and you'll see yourself at the top. This is nearly there. Good work.

A complex room full of details scattered throughout. I’m a fan. Weirdly enough this room can work if you turn it upside down! That being said I do believe the symmetrical aspect could have been discarded for a better result. Symmetry does make rooms look better visually but with the capabilities you and the rest of this cast have, it just cheapens the effort somewhat. Like I said, I love the room, I just wish it had a more organic shape to it.

You've created something truly beautiful this week. The structure you created on top of the island is executed quite well. The roof covered in the plants was my favourite part of the build. You incorporated like textures and shades and in conjunction with the rocks, it really set the scene. The smaller island connected with the bridge was crafty and appropriate. I would've liked to have seen some differentiation in the rock formation. Perhaps stacking similar shades and opposing textures; it would've showcased some more dimension. Overall this is a strong design. Nice job!

A most adorable creation. The room is well rounded and composed quite well visually. You managed to imbue a lot of soul and character into this. I simply adore the idea of a separate floating island attached to the main one through a bridge. The cabin is cute with the mossy roof being its best highlight. Overall an impressive showing from you this week.

Deactivate!

I'm quite obsessed with this design. The large feline with wings grabbing onto the side of your island really set the scene. The crystals jetting out every which way, combined with the glow and orbiting objects; mesmerizing. This concept is one of the stronger of the week. I really admire all the small details and how you were able to combine them to build this rendition. Perhaps adding grey rocks within the crystals would've worked in your favour. Sometimes looking at similar colours leaves things looking muddled. Drawing attention to a different feature usually works wonders. Overall this is the start of something magical. Keep it up.

An interesting take on the task. You were the only one doing these crystal-esque islands. They’re quite majestic and I like the smaller castofs orbiting the big one. I do wish there was a bit more to it though. Maybe a contrasting colour to battle all the blues and whites. Something to stand out and draw your eye in. Still though, as it is, it's still gorgeous looking. I still need to see you push yourself and risk everything and give us something… explosive. Keep it up

Every time you look at this build you see things you didn't notice before. The intricate detailing and impeccable stacking is not lost on me. This is an effortless design that contains a lot of precise and methodical thinking. The room layout is exceptional, the colour palette is striking. The overall tone and graphic components really push this forward. Excellent job this week.

This is truly spectacular. I’m glad to have you in this game if you’re gonna keep spawning rooms like these. This is gorgeous! Thematically it’s unique and perfect for a floating island, managed through impeccable detailing and furni use. Everything fits so well both thematically and color-wise. I can see absolutely nothing wrong with this room. You win this round my friend.

Congratulations C0RPSES on becoming the second builder in season 4 to win a task. Your attention to detail and unique building style coined you the top place this week. You really know how to build upon our prompts. Keep up the amazing work.

We say goodbye to amro45 and GreenStripes. Unfortunately failure to submit on time is not something we take lightly. We had no choice but to continue without them. We are on a strict deadline to ensure that we're being fair to everyone participating. Thanks for your time and efforts.

Thanks builders!
